What is the probably very first thing you ask someone when you meet them? Their name. What exactly is in a name? Names are usually special. When a name is mentioned, it makes you think of someone or something. Hopefully, most names bring pleasant memories to mind. For me, one name that never fails to bring a smile to my face is Bristol. All I can think of is a fluffy, happy-go-lucky goofball with a smile constantly dominating her features. Bristol Bay. Yup! That's our puppy! Why did we name her Bristol, though?
First of all, our family used to live in Alaska. Yes, the great land that attracts more than two million tourists each year. Yes, the rugged state that is three times the size of Texas. No, not where all the people live in igloos and where every animal wants to kill you. Almost every animal wants to kill you. Unless you have bear spray. Then you, my good friend, have the upper hand. A grizzly is following you through the woods? No problem! With a "hey, bear!" and a dash of bear spray, you've got it covered! Your brother is lurking around waiting to scare you out of your wits? You got it! Just let him have that bear spray! Whoops. Don't let my brothers see that! Also, don't actually spray near people unless it's an absolute emergency. That stuff is BAD. Anyway, because we used to live in Alaska and LOVED it there-yes, we miss it-we wanted to remember it a little by naming our beloved mountain dog after a landmark in Alaska: Bristol Bay.
Secondly, why not name a Berner with a "B" name? Among Bernese Mountain Dog owners, "B" names are a favorite to name their fluffy, wriggly teddy bear. It just sounds right to name a Berner with a "B" name. "Bristol Bay, the Bernese". See? It has a fun, bouncy ring to it that just echoes everything about Bernese!
Thirdly, Bristol fits our happy dog best. It declares everything about her: her placidness and easygoing nature, her smile and ebullience, and her loyalty and strength. "B" names are strong names that definitely work for the Bernese breed! Bristol Bay- a name of smiles, sweetness and strength.
